D305 - The mobile steam-powered fire brigade from Wilesco
In 1987, Wilesco released its first mobile steam engine in the form of a fire engine. The fire engine was modeled after the Magirus steam pump, which was used by fire departments in Germany, England, and the USA around the turn of the century.
This small, mobile, steam-powered version of the Wilesco fire engine is a true replica of the original down to the smallest detail. Easily heated with our Witabs solid fuel, the fire engine can drive forward and backward, making it fun for the whole family.
Just like its prototype, the steam engine has a vertical boiler and drive. The self-priming water pump can be activated using the clutch lever. A water reservoir is located under the front bench of the fire engine. This has a direct hose connection to the water pump. The benches are made of wood, and the boiler itself and all piping are made of brass.
“Real” functioning water pump of the Wilesco fire department
Of course, just like a real fire engine, the water sprayer can also be used as one. The pump, which can be operated, draws water from the water tank under the seat. This can then be sprayed up to 3 m. The steam shut-off valve can be used to adjust the water pressure. Just like the original, the water tank on the D305 can be refilled using a hose. This means that you can fill the tank with water by hand, or you can hang a hose in water, for example in a water glass, and refill it using the tank's suction function. To do this, simply turn the flywheel in the other direction.
