Performance of the Wilesco steam models
What is the power output of my steam engine and how many engine models can I drive?
Unfortunately, there are no precise power measurements for Wilesco model steam engines. Power depends on the boiler volume, the efficiency of the cylinders (single or double), the flywheel mass, and the intensity of the firing.
We use a so-called performance index for the performance of the Wilesco steam models that can be used for drive models.
We also provide the power index for the power requirements of Wilesco drive models . The higher the number, the greater the power consumption.
The most powerful model , the Wilesco D32 steam engine (50 index points), can drive two to three M66 dynamos at full steam (one dynamo requires approximately 5 index points). The M66 dynamo is a direct current generator that produces a voltage of approximately 1.5 to 3 volts, depending on the speed and gear ratio. It causes the LED to glow dimly. Until mid-October 2007, the dynamo was equipped with a 6-volt bulb (0.1 A), which caused it to glow.
The D242 electric steam engine has a speed of approximately 1,400–1,800 rpm, depending on the steam pressure. This model then achieves an output in the low single-digit wattage range. Unfortunately, no power measurements have yet been conducted on the D430 model (Wilesco steam traction engine). Its output is estimated at approximately 1 watt.
General instructions to achieve the highest possible performance/transmission:
Bring steam models to full steam with the specified amount of dry fuel. Adding warm water will increase the performance. Lightly tension the drive coils (not too loose, not too tight). Check the bearings of the drive models and oil them if necessary.
