The original Old Smoky D365 steamroller has been manufactured in this form since the mid-1960s; it was the first mobile model steam engine in the Wilesco program.

This model of a mobile steam engine was based on a widely used steamroller that performed its service in road construction until the 1950s.

Steamroller suitable for mobile and stationary use

The walkway, chain steering, and gearbox coupling are standard features of our Old Smoky. The coupling – operated by a rod to the left of the driver's cab – allows the steamroller to also be used as a stationary steam engine. With its 230 cc boiler, the Old Smoky is powerful enough to pull accessories in mobile operation as well as to drive model vehicles in stationary operation. The aluminum wheels of this steamroller are anodized and painted.

For indoor and outdoor use

Our Wilesco D365 steamroller is suitable for both indoor and outdoor use. Thanks to its bidirectional flywheel, the Wilesco D365 can move forwards and backwards, and is steered via a chain drive. During operation, the steamroller's chimney emits authentic smoke. A single load of genuine Witabs solid fuel provides approximately 15 minutes of runtime. Runtime may be slightly shorter when using other brands of solid fuel.

Steamroller also available as a kit

We also offer the D365 as a steamroller kit . This kit (D375 / D376) has the same features as the pre-assembled steamroller. With this kit, you'll experience firsthand how steam engines are constructed and work step-by-step on assembling all the individual parts. Even inexperienced steam engine enthusiasts can easily assemble the kit, thanks to the detailed, richly illustrated assembly instructions. The approximate assembly time for the steamroller is three to four hours. It's best to work on it without interruption. All included parts of the steam tractor have undergone rigorous quality control before leaving our steam engine factory.
Please note: The kit for our Old Smoky steamroller is unfortunately not available in the black/nickel color combination!
